The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for snow across much of southern England today.

The yellow alert predicts: "Early rain over western Britain is expected to turn to snow as it spreads eastwards across much of England, Wales and southern Scotland during the course of Sunday."

In light of the yellow alert, The Citizen weather expert, Ian Thomas, responded that a complex area of low pressure makes it difficult to be 100 per cent certain, but didn't rule out the possibility that the current band of rain may turn to snow overnight, with significant accumulations possible. This could continue into Monday before gradually dying out during the day.

"This forecast may need some fine tuning with a lot to play for, so watch local forecasts on Sunday," he advised.

The half-term week ahead will remain cold, with further frost and rain, sleet or snow predicted.
